CoolRoofsBC is developing a province-wide Ambassador Program to support locally led groups interested in increasing awareness and understanding of cool roofing within their communities.
The program will provide opportunities for individuals to connect with others locally, share information, undertake locally appropriate activities and help build greater awareness of cool roofing throughout British Columbia.
Additional information about the Ambassador Program and how to become involved will be available shortly.

CoolRoofsBC Ambassador Program
CoolRoofsBC is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing awareness, understanding and appropriate adoption of cool roofing in British Columbia.
A building’s roof is one of its most important defences against environmental heat. Yet decisions about existing roofing are most often approached simply as maintenance issues—the roof has deteriorated to the point that it must be repaired or replaced.
CoolRoofsBC recommends viewing this situation much differently, with every roofing project considered as an opportunity to evaluate cool roof options and provide additional long-lasting benefits for the building itself and the larger community in which it is situated.
CoolRoofsBC is developing a province-wide Ambassador Program to support individuals and locally led groups interested in increasing awareness, understanding and appropriate adoption of cool roofing within their communities.
The program is based on a simple principle:
Local groups do not exist to support CoolRoofsBC. CoolRoofsBC exists to help support locally led groups.
Locally Led. Provincially Connected.
British Columbia is made up of communities with different climates, building types, roofing practices and local priorities. The opportunities for advancing cool roofing will therefore differ from one community to another.
The Ambassador Program is intended to bring interested people together locally while connecting them with others working toward similar objectives across BC.
Local groups will determine their own priorities and activities. CoolRoofsBC will provide information, resources and province-wide connections to help them succeed.
The objective is not to create centrally directed local branches, but to support a network of locally led groups able to learn from one another and share successful approaches.

How the Ambassador Program Will Work
Individuals interested in advancing cool roofing in their community will be encouraged to connect with others locally and, where there is sufficient interest, establish an informal local CoolRoofsBC group.
Local groups may represent an entire municipality or community. In larger municipalities, groups may also form around smaller geographic areas where that better supports local participation and activities.
The Ambassador Program is intended to remain flexible so that local organization reflects the size, geography and interests of individual communities. The program is intended to include BC municipalities and, where appropriate, First Nations communities, allowing the network to grow progressively as local interest develops.
Each participating community or local area would have a Lead Ambassador who provides a point of contact between the local group, CoolRoofsBC and other Ambassador groups throughout the Province.
Increasing local awareness and understanding of cool roofing;
Sharing reliable cool-roofing information through local networks and social media;
Engaging with municipal representatives, community organizations and other interested groups;
Encouraging consideration of cool roofing when buildings are constructed, reroofed or restored;
Sharing local experience and successful approaches with Ambassador groups elsewhere in BC; and
Where appropriate, exploring community volunteer initiatives such as reflective roof-coating projects.
Ambassador groups are not intended to replace the technical, planning, policy or regulatory responsibilities of municipalities or roofing professionals. Their role is primarily to help build awareness, understanding and community engagement.
Reliable information and educational materials about cool roofing;
Communications and social-media resources;
Examples of successful approaches and programs from other communities;
Opportunities for Ambassador groups to exchange information and experience;
Connections with relevant organizations, researchers and industry resources; and
Access to province-wide CoolRoofsBC initiatives and capabilities as they are developed
The intention is to create a network in which experience gained in one community can benefit others throughout British Columbia.
Local Leadership and CoolRoofsBC Governance
The Ambassador Program is also intended to provide the foundation for the future governance of CoolRoofsBC.
Lead Ambassadors from participating communities will form CoolRoofsBC's membership body responsible for electing CoolRoofsBC's Board of Directors.
This structure is intended to ensure that, as the organization develops, its direction continues to reflect the communities it exists to support and that CoolRoofsBC remains locally connected rather than centrally directed.
Become Involved
CoolRoofsBC welcomes expressions of interest from individuals who would like to help increase awareness and understanding of cool roofing in their community.
You do not need to be a roofing professional or technical expert. More important is an interest in helping your community become better informed about the opportunities cool roofing can provide.
